Tabius opened his eyes
quickly
what, where am I
he thought
he sat himself up
then looked around
people walked around him
some smiled
some looked at him in
disgust
'there you are'
a voice said
Tabius slowly wobbled to his
feet
shook his head
then looked at the speaker
'ahh brother it is you'
he said looking
'don't give me that
where have you been'
his brother said
looking at him up and down
'I told you I was at the
shop'
Tabius said defensively
'I went to the shop
you were not there'
his brother snapped back
Tabius could see the anger
in his eyes
'I bought some wine
drank it and passed
out here'
Tabius tried to look at his
surroundings
without getting caught
passed out between two
buildings
how did I get here
and what happened
'so you went and got drunk
then passed out here'
his brother said scowling
him
'aye'
Tabius said nodding his head
'then what is the bruise on
your cheek'
his brother said poking his
cheek
Tabius winced from the pain
how could he forget this
'I got into a fight'
Tabius said with a smile
his brother stared at him
Tabius tried to play it off
'what brings you up so
early'
'looking for you'
his brother said shaking his
head
Tabius walked out into the
street
he looked around searching
looking, for what
he does not know
'let us return home
we have chores to do'
his brother said
stepping into the street
The day was long
Tabius couldn't focus on his
work
all he could think of was
that night
what happened to me
why can't I remember
anything
he tried to think hard
all he could see was a smile
then blackness
'Tabius come here'
his brother shouted
Tabius dropped his sheer
then went into the house
'are you Tabius'
a soldier demanded
Tabius stood there
'what did you do brother'
'you are to come with us'
the soldier demanded
Tabius looked at the soldier
his hand was on his sword
his face serious
he shifted his eyes to his
brother
shaken, worried, but not yet
scared
Tabius sighed
'alright I will come'
the guard approached him
grabbed him by the arm hard
then forced him into the
door
Tabius flew out the door
Landing on his face in the
street
he was then yanked up
two more guards
he looked around
then his vision became
blurry
a blow to his head
then he was shoved into a
cart
'what are my crimes'
Tabius said looking
at one of the guards
'just shut up'
a guard shouted at him
It was a long ride
but he knew
he knew where he was heading
the sun was high into the
air
by the time the cart stop
thank god it stopped
Tabius thought
shielding his eyes to from
the sun
'come on out you go'
a soldier shouted at him
Tabius stepped out
and began to stretch his
legs
'no relaxing for you'
a guard said shoving Tabius
he looked up
the temple of Athena
Tabius looked around
1,2,3,4,5
five guards he counted
three more then last night
'come on move'
a guard shoved Tabius
he looked around
as he walked through the
door
'so your the young man from
yesterday'
a tall man in a white robe
said
Tabius nodded
a mistake
he wouldn't make again
as a unknown blow
landed onto his head
Tabius fell to his knees
'show some respect'
a voice behind him snapped
Tabius looked up
the tall man was now taller
'now now he is our guest
though why I do not know
he should have been killed'
the tall man said
'is he here yet'
a soft gentle voice said
the tall man turned his head
Tabius looked around him
his eyes became wide
'who is she'
he forced out
'why she is what is keeping
you alive'
the man said staring at him
'please stand'
she said with a smile
Tabius slowly stood
not taking his eyes off her
she walked to him
it looked like she was
gliding
her feet not touching the
ground
as she got closer
his vision became blurry
but he was not hit
he strained his eyes
tried to keep them open
'what is going on'
he looked behind him
all the guards fell to their
knees
'I am sorry its a gift and a
curse'
the woman said
'look upon me once more'
she said her voice closer
he looked at her
his vision clear now
Tabius' eyes opened wide
silver eyes
was his first thought
she smiled
put both arms behind her
then swayed left and right
'you know your the only one
to ever come great lengths
to see me'
her eyes showing a smile
'well I uhh'
he looked behind him
the guards trying to get to
their feet
'no need to be scared
as long as you are my guest
no one will harm you'
the woman said with a smile
'well they say
you are really beautiful
but how do they know
if one eye looks upon you
then they are condemned
to death'
Tabius spilled out
'what else do they say'
she went on
'do you not know'
he said
she shook her head
innocently
'well'
he began
Tabius told her everything
as he spoke
her eyes sparkled
so Tabius tried not to stare
'wow all of this
but no one
but you has
ever seen me'
she said laughing
Tabius' heart raced
this is the first time
he has never been around
another woman
other then his mother and
sister
'do I live up to their
expectation'
she asked kneeling
looking at Tabius
her lips were full
color of cherries
her eyes silver
as a sly fox
her body was small
not sickly
not injured
but small
tiny
hair blonde and long
tamed not wild
she could have been
in fact been
carved from Marble by Zeus
'yes, yes you are'
she smiled
Patted the ground next to
her
'come sit'
Tabius sat on the ground in
front of her
'please leave us'
she said looking around the
room
everyone but the guards
bowed
Tabius looked at the guards
who all stared back at him
'make sure the guards are
fed'
she said smiling at them
'as you wish'
a man in a white robe
replied
the room cleared fast
Soon he found himself
alone with her
'they call me Antheia'
she said looking at him
'I am Tabius'
he returned
she jumped
then moved her fingers on
the ground
'To-bi-us'
she said pushing her finger
to the ground
he shook his head
'no Ta-bi-us'
he said smiling
she nodded
'please tell me
more about these lands'
she said with a smile
'don't you get to see
these lands
as you travel'
he said looking at her
'no I go from temple
to temple and pray'
she said
looking at the ground
'wow to go from town to
town'
he said smiling
she jumped again
'I umm I'
she hesitated
face turning red
Tabius looked away
'where are you from'
'I am from Athens'
she said
looking up through her hair
head still looking at the
ground
'Athens that's pretty far'
Tabius said looking at her
trying to figure out why she
is playing on the floor
'I fought with some people
from there'
Tabius said
looking at her hands
beautiful hands
he thought
'you went to war'
she said lifting her head
Tabius looked up
'yes I went to war'
he said sighing
'what is war like'
she said
looking at him eyes
sparkling
'I am sure you don't
want to know'
Tabius said chuckling
'oh but I do'
she said nodding her head
'well war isn't
what they say it is
it is far worse'
Tabius said
'please go on'
she said
getting closer
Tabius gulped hard
'well I was seventeen
when I went in my father
and brother's place
I just wanted
to protect my lands
but I thought
it was for months
but it was for years
four long years'
Tabius said
Antheia's eyes
were wide open
'I will stop now'
Tabius said
looking at her
'no please don't
you were so young
you were so innocent'
she said
looking at him
Tabius laughed
'yea I was
we all were
so many of us
so many of my friends
many of them fell
so many died'
he said
looking at the ground
'please continue
I want to hear it all'
Antheia said
smiling at him
'if that is
what you want'
Tabius said
'it is Tabius
it is'
Antheia said
drawing circles in the floor
